Iranian illustrator wins BIB Golden Apple

TEHRAN, Sept. 8 (MNA) -- Iranian illustrator Farshid Shafiei has won the Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) 2007 festival which is running from September 8 until October 26 in Slovakia.

Shafiei won the award for his illustration of the two books “Engagement” written by Farideh Khalatbari, and “Zarbal” by Jamaleddin Akrami which have been published by Shabaviz Publications.

BIB’s Grand Prix went to author Einar Turkowski from Germany.

In addition, Hoda Haddadi from Iran won a BIB plaque for her two books “If I Was a Pilot”, and “Again Rain”.

Works by seven more Iranian illustrators were also featured in the biennial’s catalogue this year including, Negin Ehtesabian, Lisa Jamileh Barjasteh, Ali Namvar, Ali Buzari, Ali Mafakheri, Amir Shabanipur, and Peyman Rahimizadeh.

Farshid Mesqali, an Iranian artist, won the biennial’s Golden Apple in 1972.
